Why I started to write a book
I think I’ve wanted to write a book since I was in third grade. I remember journaling story ideas whenever I thought of a good start to a future book.
The catalyst for me was when I had a daughter with Down Syndrome, and not enough great books to send to her classroom for World Down Syndrome Day.
And so I started writing a story about a polka-dotted egg that stood out from the other penguin eggs, and the story of Dottie the polka-dotted penguin was hatched.
I can’t believe the great response I’ve had from adults and children alike! It means so much to me that others enjoy reading a story of inclusion and kindness.
